II. Training Objectives
Art design adheres to the combination of art and science, the combination of various art forms, and the combination of traditional art and digital technology. On the basis of emphasizing on the cultivation of basic design skills and relying on the geological characteristics of the University, it is committed to forming the nature oriented green design features and advantages. Meanwhile, in order to meet the needs of the era for cultural development and prosperity in China, efforts are made to develop digital art design and other new design fields, so as to meet the growing needs of compound senior creative design talents.
The goal of art design is to cultivate high-level and application-oriented professionals with systematic professional knowledge and high-level art design and creation skills. The detailed requirements include:
1. The graduate student should master the basic theory of Marxism, have good professional quality and professional ethics, can actively serve the socialist modernization construction, and contribute to the development of art and culture.
2. The graduate student should have systematic professional knowledge, high-level art design and creative ability and strong artistic understanding and expression.
3. Be able to use a foreign language to communicate in this field.
4. The graduates are engaged in design teaching, practice and management in colleges and universities, design institutes and administrative departments.
III. Contents
The training process highlights the characteristics of the major, focuses on practice, and gives consideration to the cultivation of theory and internal quality, including classroom teaching, professional skills training, professional collection and works display, professional practice and works display, and graduation defense. The total credits should not be less than 50 credits, and the credits of practical courses should account for more than 60%.
Supervisor responsibility system is adopted, including guiding and supervising students to complete their studies as scheduled, and guiding students’ professional skills training, professional collection and works exhibition, professional practice and works exhibition and dissertation, etc.
Classroom teaching includes common courses, professional required courses and elective courses. 8 credits for common courses, 8 credits for professional required courses and 6 credits for elective courses. Common courses and professional required courses are equivalent to the degree courses of academic graduate.
Upon individual guidance by the supervisor based on his own design and creation practice, the professional skills training should be completed before professional practice. The supervisor should formulate specific professional skills training plan for each student, including the name and quantity of skills, training objectives and forms, workload and assessment methods, etc. Professional skills training plan and its completion status should be include din the students’ learning portfolio.
Students can enter the professional practice only after completing the course study and professional skills training. The professional practice shall take 12 to 16 weeks based on the design project or creative project, and shall be completed under the direct guidance of the supervisor. The supervisor shall be responsible for determining the professional practice unit and off-campus supervisor for the student, formulating targeted professional practice plan, putting forward clear workload requirements and evaluating the professional practice performance. The School will actively create conditions for artistic practice and establish various forms of practice bases to facilitate the students to complete professional practice tasks.
IV. Training Links
The graduation work exhibition should be mainly the exhibition of professional practice works, and should not be repeated with the mid-term works exhibited. The students can choose any of the following ways to exhibit their works as needed. The School advocate and encourage the market-oriented design works and those supported by projects to participate in the exhibition.
1. A complete set of artistic design program and text description.
2. A certain number of creative design works.
3. Independent animation works (no less than 5 minutes).
4. Other forms of works with equivalent workload.
The topic of graduation thesis should be closely combined with professional practice, and should be the design and creation thinking and theoretical interpretation of the works exhibited. The paper must conform to the academic standards and be no less than 5000 words.
The graduation works exhibition and dissertation must be completed under the guidance of the supervisor. The graduation examination shall be presided over by the chairman of the oral defense committee. With the approval of the School, the oral defense committee is composed of 3-5 teachers with senior titles, and is responsible for reviewing the graduation exhibition and dissertation.
For those who have completed the required credits and passed the graduation examination, the School shall apply to the academic degree committee of the University for examination and approval, to confer the professional degree of Master of Arts and issue the graduation certificate.
