II. Training Objectives
Training objectives:
This major is to cultivate modern journalism and communication talents with full development of morality, intelligence and physique, modern communication concept and international vision, understanding China’s national conditions, mastering news theory and business, mastering communication skills and methods, and having strong international communication ability.
The requirements are as follows:
1. For the classic works of Humanities and Social Sciences, they should have a relatively systematic reading and understanding;
2. They should master the basic theory and systematic professional knowledge of journalism and communication science, have skilled professional ability and strong theoretical research ability, and be creative in journalism practice;
3. They should master the basic knowledge of research methodology, be able to use appropriate research methods for specific topics, have rigorous thinking and logic, and have the basic ability to find, raise and solve problems;
4. They should master a foreign language, have a certain international vision, be able to read the foreign language materials of this major skillfully, and have strong international communication ability;
5. They must abide by the professional ethics and academic ethics of journalism and communication.
Length of schooling:
Length of schooling: Flexible length of schooling is implemented, and the basic length for academic master’s degree is 3 years, and the longest is no more than 5 years.
To apply for a master’s degree in two years, one of the following conditions must be met:
1. During graduate study, at least one T4 paper should be published in the journal recognized by the University as the first author, and China University of Geosciences should be the unit of the first author (if the supervisor is the first author and the graduate student is the second author, it shall be deemed as the first author);
2. More than two T5 papers (including 2 papers) should be published in the journal recognized by the University as the first author, and China University of Geosciences should be the unit of the first author (if the supervisor is the first author and the graduate student is the second author, it shall be deemed as the first author).
III. Contents
According to the program, the graduate students are required to complete the credits of degree courses and elective courses specified by the University within the specified time, and complete the scientific research tasks and practical work designated by the supervisor. They should have an overall understanding of the theory and method of journalism and communication, master the latest theory and trend of this research direction; master the solid basic theory and systematic specialized knowledge of the discipline, have a deep understanding of the domestic and foreign research status, development trend and frontier fields of the discipline; be familiar with the common technical methods in the discipline field; have strong practical ability; be able to use their knowledge to do scientific research work or independently undertake specialized technical work; have strong academic communication ability 。
IV. Training Links
During the study period, the graduate student should collect materials, read more than 50 professional literatures (the literature in recent 10 years should not be less than 50% and English Literature should be no less than 30%) and conduct scientific investigation and research under the guidance of the supervisor, submit literature review reports and make public reports. Academic report should be made at least once every academic year (except for dissertation proposal report)
Before the defense, the graduate student should publish at least one academic paper as the first author (supervisor as the first author, student as the second author, it shall be deemed as the first author) and China University of Geosciences shall be the first completion unit.
Under the guidance of the supervisor, the dissertation should be completed by the student himself. The topic of the dissertation should be of theoretical and practical significance, with clear argument, sufficient demonstration, standard expression and new opinion
Generally, the main body of the dissertation should be written in Chinese with no less than 30000 words. International students can write their dissertation in English with a detailed Chinese abstract of no less than 4000 words. The format must conform to the “Regulations of the University on Unifying the Format of Dissertations of Doctoral and Master Students”.
