II. Training Objectives
The discipline is to cultivate the innovative compound talents of design science with high sense of social responsibility and broad academic vision, a good sense of serving the society and integrating into the society, broad mind, excellent character and learning, solid basic skills and strong practical ability.
1. Love the motherland and the people. Adhering to the guidance of the important thought of Three Represents and the scientific outlook on development, and the combination of China’s national conditions with the basic principles of Marxism. Adhering to the cultivation of sustainable design and green ecological design based on high-quality aesthetics, and cultivating the students’ creative consciousness relying on the excavation of humanities and regional context.
2. Master the basic principles of design and form a complete knowledge system of design. Lay stress on the cultivation of innovation ability and practical ability in the learning process, and the keen perception of the rapid development society in the learning process. Cultivate the design talents with interdisciplinary awareness, independent thinking ability and team coordination ability.
3. Master a foreign language. Strengthen the attention and study of classic and latest design methods, design theory, art, philosophy and aesthetics theory in the training process.
III. Contents
According to the postgraduate program, the students are required to complete the prescribed course learning tasks within the specified time, successfully complete the artistic creation and design tasks assigned by the supervisor, and actively participate in various academic and artistic exchange activities under the guidance of the supervisor. The students should understand the frontier and development trend of the research field, be able to independently complete artistic creation and design tasks, and have their own academic views, artistic pursuit and practical value. The specific methods are as follows:
1. The teaching methods include classroom teaching, discussion, self-study and practice, emphasizing case teaching, self-study and practical skills training;
2. The performance assessment should include written examination, subject-based design and research, exhibition of works, thesis writing, etc., which should be determined by the teachers.
3. The students should participate in necessary observation, academic lectures, academic reports, professional seminars, professional exhibitions, art practice and social surveys, etc., to broaden their horizons, improve their comprehensive artistic quality, and cultivate the ability to analyze and solve problems and practical skills.
4. During the period of study, the students should attend at least one academic conference every academic year, read out one academic paper or exhibited works; they are encouraged to participate in high-level art design and creation activities, and publish design and creation works and related papers.
IV. Training Links
1. The postgraduates of design in each research field must complete the master dissertation.
Basic requirements of dissertation: the dissertation should be completed by the master himself under the guidance of the supervisor; the topic should be of theoretical and practical significance, with clear argument, sufficient argumentation, standard expression and new opinions; the length should be no less than 30000 words, and the format must follow the “Writing Standards of Master Dissertation of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan)”.
2. In addition to the topic of design history and theory, the graduate students selecting other topics must complete the graduation design (or creation) works and display them publicly. Both graduation design (or creation) and academic paper are main assessment indicators, which are equally important. Weight coefficient: graduation design (or creation):dissertation = 50%:50%
The graduation design (or creation) should be completed by the graduate students themselves under the guidance of the supervisor. The topic should be of theoretical and practical significance, with new insights and detailed contents.
The graduation design (or creation) shall be filed with the dissertation.
