Design Science: Gong Jian

Gong Jian, born in 1977, male, professor, doctoral supervisor/postdoctoral co-supervisor, current deputy dean of the School of Public Administration, a leading talent in science and technology of the Ministry of Natural Resources, is mainly engaged in the teaching and scientific research in land and resources evaluation, land and space planning and land and resources informatization. Research interests: multi-scale land use and cover/driving mechanism of land use change and spatial simulation, land price influence mechanism and spatial diffusion effect, land spatial planning, with more than 50 scientific research papers published; more than 40 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Natural Social Fund of China and national “multiple compliance” pilot program as the project leader; one grand award for progress in geographic information technology at provincial or ministerial level, two second-class awards for progress in science and technology at provincial and ministerial level, one provincial first prize for teaching achievements. He is the executive director of Hubei Provincial Land Academy, the executive director of the National Territory Spatial Planning Society of Hubei, a member of the Professional Committee on Territorial Spatial Planning of China Society of Natural Resources, a member of the Professional Committee on Land-use Engineering of Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering, a certified land appraiser, and a certified real estate appraiser.

II. Teaching Experience

He offered courses for undergraduates, postgraduates and doctors, such as Land Management, Real Estate Appraisal, Introduction to Land Science, Land-use Planning, and Frontier of Land Science. He has been responsible for the course design and field teaching practice for the major of Land Resource Management for many years. Under his instruction, both undergraduate and graduate students have published many scientific research papers, the students participated in the National Real Estate Appraisal Competition and the National Land Spatial Planning Competition for College Students and won many first, second and third prizes. He was honored as the most popular teacher and excellent class teacher of China University of Geosciences, and won one first prize for teaching achievements in Hubei Province.
