At the beginning of the new semester, in order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the “Opinions on Comprehensively Strengthening Labor Education in University and Primary and Secondary Schools in the New Era” issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, to accelerate the construction of a postgraduate education system that comprehensively cultivates morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor skills, and to guide students to develop labor qualities and establish correct labor values, the School of Arts and Communication responded positively to the call of the Graduate School, continued to carry out student labor education and practice activities, and took various measures to explore the construction of a new mode of labor education.

Build a “labor + Party building” team. It is the Lei Feng Month in March, and all student party branches of the School of Arts and Communication have combined labor education with theme month activities and the themed party’s day of the party branches. Party members have organized the cleaning of dormitories, studios, and the School in batches, allowing everyone to progress and grow through labor. This School advocates that Party members should learn through labor and work through learning. Labor education not only improves life skills, but also cultivates good working habits, allowing one to feel the hard work and happiness of labor, to gradually develop good habits of respecting one’s own and others’ labor achievements, and to ultimately carry forward the great spirit of the Chinese nation’s reverence and love for labor.

Explore the “labor + education” model. For the purpose of educating people through labor, the School of Arts and Communication carried out the postgraduate labor practice activity on the theme of “Inheriting the spirit of Lei Feng - Creating Happiness through Labor”. With student leaders, Party members and national scholarship winners as the vanguard, students of the School actively participated in the four themes of landscaping, dormitory management, volunteer service and sanitation cleaning, and actively assisted campus laborers to carry out labor practices, to understand the spirit of Lei Feng in labor and to dedicate their strength to campus governance. The School encourages graduate students to display neat and comfortable dormitories with photos, videos, and texts, continuing their love for life in limited space and reflecting the positive and upward spirit of graduate students in the new era.

Focus on “labor + morality” cultivation. In response to General Secretary Xi’s call to comprehensively promote the construction of a beautiful China and accelerate the modernization of harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature, the School of Arts and Communication actively participated in the 3.12 Tree-Planting Activities organized by the Department of Logistics Support of the university, to carry out voluntary tree planting for the whole nation, establish the awareness of sustainable development and jointly build a green campus. Teachers of the School actively participated in the activity. They implement Xi Jinping’s idea of ecological civilization through labor, love and protect the grass and trees with practical actions, promote the concept of green development in the hearts of the people, and contribute their power to the construction of a beautiful campus.
