(Reprinted from CUG News) On March 22nd, it was learned from the award ceremony of the first online review contest of Hubei Federation of Social Sciences that Associate Professor Liu Yikun’s review work “Seeing the Power of Social Science Like Marx” from the School of Arts and Communication of CUG stood out from more than 500 review works and won the third prize.
The article “Seeing the Power of Social Sciences like Marx” focuses on the story of Marx’s engagement in journalism and philosophical and social science research to explain the theoretical power and far-reaching significance of philosophy and social sciences, aiming to provide insights for the study of philosophy and social sciences in the new era. According to the article, “Seeing the Power of Social Science” is advocating an ideal, vision and sentiment to social scientists, who need to have such high ideals and lofty ambitions as Marx.
Liu Yikun, associate professor and master supervisor of the School of Arts and Communication at CUG, deputy secretary-general and executive director of the Committee on History of Journalism and Communication Education of Chinese Association for the History of Journalism and Communication, member of the editorial board of the Yearbook of Journalism and Communication Education of China, has published more than 30 papers in core journals such as Nanjing Journal of Social Sciences, Modern Communication, Academic Journal of Zhongzhou, Journalism Review, and China Publishing Journal, and many of the papers have been reprinted by Xinhua Digest, and Chinese Social Science Digest. He has published one monograph in Chinese and one in English, and has been awarded the National Excellent Academic Achievement Award for Young Journalists, the First Prize for Excellent Achievements in Higher Education Institutions in Hubei Province, and the Third Prize for Social Science Achievements of Wuhan City.
It is reported that in December 2023, “Seeing the power of social sciences”, the first themed online evaluation contest by Hubei Federation of Social Sciences, attracted authors from more than 20 provinces (regions and municipalities), received a total of more than 500 articles, of which 108 works were selected and published in the East Lake Comment, xuexi.cn and other authoritative platforms. After evaluation by expert judges and announcement, 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 7 third prizes, 30 awards for outstanding works and 15 awards for outstanding organizational units were selected in the first contest.
