In order to deeply study and implement Xi Jinping thought on culture, fully implement the requirements of the “Notice on Comprehensive Implementation of Aesthetic Education Infiltration Action in Schools” by the Ministry of Education, and promote the unique role of calligraphy and painting as an important part of the excellent traditional Chinese culture in shaping values, forging patriotism, cultivating aesthetic thinking, and continuing the roots of civilization, the preparatory founding meeting of the Calligraphy Association and the Fine Arts Association of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) was grandly held on February 2 in Conference Room 1209 of Building of the School of Arts and Communication.
Li Yukai, deputy director of the university office, Hou Zhijun, director of the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee, Liu Guohua, director of the Retirement Work Department, Guo Xiurong, executive vice chairman of the Labor Union, Zhu Dan, secretary of the Youth League Committee, Shuai Bin, director of the Department of Library, Archives and Museum, Jin Xi, secretary of the Party Committee of the School, and He Qingjun, dean of the School, were present at the meeting, which was also attended by some members of the Calligraphy Association and the Fine Arts Association. The meeting was presided over by Peng Jing, deputy dean of the School.
△Meeting Venue
The meeting opened with the solemn national anthem. Jin Xi, secretary of the Party Committee of the School, delivered the opening speech, pointing out that the calligraphy and painting art of CUG has both excellent traditions and its own characteristics. There are experts and scholars engaged in related teaching and research, as well as teachers and alumni who are familiar with the art of calligraphy and painting; there are also elderly people who persist because of love, and young students who specialize because of their passion. He said that under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, especially Xi Jinping Thought on Culture, the School of Arts and Communication will educate people with aesthetics in the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty and the spread of positive energy, educate people with culture in the inheritance and promotion of traditional painting and calligraphy skills as well as in the innovation and development of painting and calligraphy in the new era, fully support the construction of the two associations, and make due contributions to the construction of campus culture with special characteristics, to the construction of “Beautiful China – Habitable Planet”, and to the construction of the internationally renowned research university in the field of earth sciences.

Dean He Qingjun presented a work report on the preparation for the establishment of the Calligraphy Association and Fine Arts Association. The “Articles (Draft) of the Calligraphy Association of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan)” and the “Articles (Draft) of the Fine Arts Association of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan)” were read out and approved at the meeting, the list of recommended candidates for the first council were read out, and the first executive council of the Calligraphy Association and the Fine Arts Association were elected and the division of directors were announced. The elected presidents of the Calligraphy Association and the Fine Arts Association, as well as representatives from the board of directors, made statements respectively. The decision of the Board of Directors of the Fine Arts Association to appoint an honorary president was also considered and approved at the meeting.

Shuai Bin, director of the Department of Library, Archives and Museum, expressed warm congratulations on the establishment of the Calligraphy Association and Fine Arts Association in his speech, encouraged the members of the Association to carry out organized creation, and strive to produce more influential geological and cultural works, and wished the Calligraphy Association and Fine Arts Association a prosperous development. He suggested that the two associations should make positive contributions and have a greater impact on the construction of campus culture and the creation and research of geoscience popularization works, using organized and characteristic work creation activities as carriers to do a good job in selecting and collecting excellent works.

Hou Zhijun, director of the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee, congratulated the successful convening of this meeting. e pointed out that the establishment of Calligraphy Association and Fine Arts Association will better serve the vast number of art enthusiasts on campus, and is a major event in the construction of campus aesthetic education, cultural construction, and discipline construction. The two associations should continue to gather strength for self-reliance, self-confidence and self-improvement, and strive to build the university into a highland of Chinese geological culture with high-quality works, and tell the story of harmonious development of man and nature and the cultural story of the development of China’s geological endeavors.
