The School of Arts and Communication Holds the Second Teaching and Administrative Staff Meeting and the Fifth Session of the Second Labor Union General Meeting

(Text by Liu Yikun; photo by Cheng Huangxin) On January 12, 2024, the Second Teaching and Administrative Staff Meeting and the Fifth Session of the Labor Union General Meeting of the School of Arts and Communication were held in Conference Room 1104 of the building of the school. Wang Fu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the University, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The meeting was opened with the solemn national anthem. Zhang Meizhen, deputy dean of the School, read out the approval documents of the meeting. Bian Jianhua, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School, chaired the meeting.

He Qingjun, dean of the School, presented the 2023 Work Report and Financial Work Report of the School of Arts and Communication. Zhou Li, Chairman of the Branch Labor Union, made the work report and financial work report of the labor union in 2023. All faculty members passed the work reports of the Dean and the Labor Union by a show of hands. Yang Zhe, deputy dean of the School, read out the “Resolution of the Teaching and Administrative Staff Meeting of the School of Arts and Communication on the Dean’s Work Report”, Peng Jing, deputy dean of the School, read out the “Resolution of the Teaching and Administrative Staff Meeting of the School of Arts and Communication on the Labor Union’s Work Report”.

Jin Xi, secretary of the Party Committee of the School, read out the commendation document. The meeting for reporting on work and integrity of division-level leading cadres was held subsequently. Members of the leadership team of the School, including Bian Jianhua, Zhang Meizhen, Yang Zhe, Peng Jing, Yuan Yue, He Qingjun and Jin Xi reported on their personal performance and integrity and self-discipline for their work respectively. All faculty members filled in the democratic evaluation form online.

Wang Fu, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the University, recognized the work of the School of Arts and Communication. He pointed out that in the past year, the new leadership team of the School has been brave enough to face problems and take on responsibilities, focusing on cultivating virtues and morality and striving to promote high-quality development. The characteristics of party building and ideological and political work are distinct, the construction of the guidance team has achieved significant results, and there are many highlights in aesthetic education and social practice work. He put forward four requirements for doing a good job in the next stage of work. Firstly, we must focus on party building and grassroots work, strengthen professional skills, and inspire the moral. The key is to deepen the integration of party building and professional skills around the implementation of the fundamental task of cultivating virtues and morality, especially in the construction of graduate guidance teams. Secondly, we should leverage our strengths, make contributions, strengthen aesthetic education, and cultivate new talents, with the focus on exploring and constructing a unique new paradigm for aesthetic education work, to contribute our power to the simultaneous development of the “five educations”. Thirdly, we should build platforms, attract talents, strengthen the team, and produce results with the focus on the target task of organized scientific research and innovation, and should take the opportunity of deeply integrating into the “Key Laboratory of Watershed Environment and Yangtze River Culture in Hubei Province (in preparation)” to strengthen the construction of teaching team. Fourthly, we should gather energy, promote righteousness, make a voice, and establish a brand with the focus on deeply exploring the rich resources of “art”, “aesthetics” and “media”, and telling the story of the era on “art + party building”.

Jin Xi, secretary of the Party Committee of the School, delivered the closing speech. He emphasized that 2024 is the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, a crucial year for the school to fully implement the spirit of the 13th Party Congress and achieve the goals of the 14th Five-Year Plan, a political year for the school to complete the inspection and rectification tasks of the Party Committee of CUG, and a challenging year for further deepening reform and promoting high-quality development. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the School must resolutely implement the decisions and deployments of the party committee and administration of CUG, take the opportunity of undergraduate program appraisal to promote improvement and make up for shortcomings, and strive to improve the level of discipline and professional construction and teacher team construction.

After the meeting, Secretary Jin Xi made arrangements for the winter vacation work of the School.
