3 Hubei Province College and Vocational College Student Summer “Volunteer Activities for the Country People” Social Practice, organized by the Hubei Civilization Office, Hubei Youth League Committee, the Department of Education of Hubei Province, Hubei Rural Revitalization Bureau, and Hubei Students’ Federation, were announced. The Jiuli Sunlight Art Teaching Assistance Project of the School of Arts and Communication was awarded the Provincial Excellent Social Practice Project!
The Jiuli Sunlight Art Teaching Assistance Group, established in 2011 and affiliated with the Youth Volunteer Association of the School of Arts and Communication, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), is the leading team of the Rainbow Action sponsored by Hubei Women’s Federation to Care for Stay-at-home Children and has participated in the “Bud Education Assistance” program. In 2022, the team was awarded the title of “Colorful Holiday” Volunteer Service Demonstration Team by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China.
From 2011 to 2022, the team carried out ten years of summer art teaching assistance in Zigui County, Yichang City, Hubei Province, with themes such as “art + caring for stay-at-home children”, “art + poverty alleviation”, “art + science popularization and dissemination”, and “art + rural revitalization”, educating and guiding the students of our school to leverage their professional advantages and artistic talents, and engage in aesthetic education and rural revitalization in remote areas. The team has sent more than 130 volunteers and taught more than 10,000 students.
In 2023, in order to actively respond to the call of General Secretary Xi Jinping in the report of the Twentieth National Congress of CPC to “be a good youth in the new era with ideals, courage to take responsibility, the ability to endure hardships, and willingness to strive”, and to comprehensively implement the spirit of the documents issued by the Ministry of Education on “Education Assistance to Xinjiang” and the “Educating Five Domains Simultaneously”, from July 4th to July 14th, a group of 16 members of the Jiuli Sunlight Art Teaching Assistance Group, under the leadership of Bian Jianhua, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Shan Tianyi and Zeng Gehui (counselors of the Student Affairs Leading Group), went to the Red Flag Farm School of the Sixth Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps to carry out art teaching assistance activities in the four aspects of “art teaching assurance: continuous promotion of the development of rural aesthetic education”, “cultural communication in Xinjiang: building an innovative path for science popularization and communication with love”, “virtue and morality cultivation: deeply expanding the effectiveness of the spirit of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in educating people”, and “theme-focused education: vigorously promoting the charm of traditional culture in the era”. They offered music, art and dance to more than 140 primary school students in seven classes, and the curriculum was enriched with aesthetic practices by incorporating geological features of CUG as well as the teaching of Mandarin. During their spare time as a volunteer teacher, they visited and inspected the Museum of Beiting City and Zhundong Energy Museum, where they experienced the unique historical and cultural heritage of Xinjiang and the industrial revitalization and development in the new era.
The teaching assistance activity won the first prize of summer social practice of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), the excellent practice project of “Thousand Schools and Thousand Projects” network exhibition of social practice achievements for college students by China Youth Daily, and was selected as one of the national and provincial projects such as “Popularizing Putonghua to Assist Rural Revitalization” and “Dreams Come True”. The deeds of the team have been publicized by many off-campus media, such as China Youth Daily, Hubei Daily, and Hubei College Ideological and Political Education.
In the new era, the Jiuli Sunlight Art Teaching Assistance Group will continue to be ambitious and down-to-earth, actively respond to the national strategic needs, bear in mind the mission of the new era, practice the responsibility of young people in the new era with practical actions, contribute to the cause of aesthetic education, and forge ahead on a new journey!
