In order to strengthen the scientific research atmosphere, expand academic horizons, cultivate and exercise students’ scientific literacy and innovation ability, and provide students with a platform to display their academic strength, scientific research achievements and innovation ability, the School of Arts and Communication of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) held the 34th Student Science and Technology Paper Presentation at 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 9, 2023 in the North Comprehensive Building.
This science and technology paper presentation was jointly organized by the Graduate Association and Student Union of the School of Arts and Communication, with five professional fields, namely, environmental design, interaction design, visual communication, news communication, and music. There were 7 venues, 160 teams, and a total of 258 participants. The students from various majors of the School would present their research results at this science and technology paper presentation. This activity was carried out in the form of “the integration of undergraduates and postgraduates” and adopted the “5+2” on-site presentation and defense mode, i.e., each participant was given five minutes to report on the paper, while the judges are given 2 minutes to comment and ask questions, and finally the judges scored the participants according to a number of assessment criteria.
The students’ presentations covered a wide range of fields such as digital media, virtual reality, art and design, demonstrating their outstanding performance in science and technology innovation. After three to four hours of intense and well-organized defense, the presentation at all venues were successfully completed. The judges provided valuable suggestions to students from the perspectives of paper standardization, literature review, research methods, and literature citation, which pointed out ideas and directions for further improving the work.
At the end of the meeting, the participating judges made concluding remarks on the group reports, pointing out the highlights and shortcomings of the participating teams and works. After the completion of all activities, the judges took a group photo with the students, marking the successful conclusion of the 34th Student Science and Technology Paper Presentation of the School of Arts and Communication.
The smooth implementation of this event cannot be separated from the joint efforts of all teachers and students, not only the careful teaching of professional teachers, but also the careful preparation of students and the silent efforts of all staff behind the scenes. We believe that this event can further promote the improvement of the academic level and innovation ability of our students. The award-winning results will be publicly announced later, and outstanding teams from each venue will be recommended to the university.
