In order to better discuss the standards and requirements for creating news works in the new media era with frontline news professionals, the School specially invited Zhu Jianhua, a winner of the China Journalism Award and the head of Changjiang Daily Features Center, to give a wonderful speech.
At 2:00 p.m. on November 16, 2023, the lecture on “Studying, thinking, understanding and practicing what good news is” was held in the Lecture Hall 1104 of the School of Arts and Communication. Chen Huawen, deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee, Zhang Meizhen, deputy dean of the School, Li Weina, director of the School Office, representatives of the faculty of the Department of Journalism and Communication, and undergraduate and postgraduate students majoring in journalism attended the study. The lecture was presided over by Ning Wei, director of the Department of Journalism and Communication.
Starting from the award-winning works of the 33rd China Journalism Award, Zhu Jianhua shared his in-depth analysis of the award-winning works and his insights in journalism practice based on his years of frontline interview experience. These works covered a wide range of fields such as social warning, in-depth reporting, and dissemination of scientific and technological achievements, fully demonstrating the responsibility and innovation of journalists. Through a report on the paralysis of a child caused by incorrect instruction in a dance interest class, Mr. Zhu detailed how to focus on social and early warning values in case selection and emphasized the leading role of in-depth reporting on social concerns. Taking Yi college students as an example, Mr. Zhu meticulously demonstrated how to discover topics, capture news clues and present the story of the times through in-depth reporting. In addition, he also demonstrated how to communicate specialized scientific and technological information to the public in an easy-to-understand manner by reporting on the scientific and technological achievements of the doctor of optical science. In response to an audio program on the phenomenon of overcharging in hospital morgues, Mr. Zhu detailed the importance of building trust, accessing to rich sources and playing a watchdog role.
Mr. Zhu Jianhua answered students’ questions about news authenticity, challenges in we-media era, and building trust relationships with interviewees in the interactive communication session. Through Mr. Zhu’s Q&A, students gained a deeper understanding and insight into the responsibilities of mainstream media in communication, existing problems, and the difficulties of building trust in interviews.
Finally, Associate Professor Ning Wei summarized the content of Mr. Zhu’s lecture and encouraged everyone to actively think about how to apply what they have learned to their practical work to bring out the greatest value.
