In order to implement the fundamental task of cultivating virtues and morality, promote the quality of talent cultivation, enhance the career planning ability and employment competitiveness of graduates, the School of Arts and Communication holds a counselor internship camp specifically for graduates in 2024 who aspire to work as counselors. More than 30 graduates and all part-time counselors attended the counselor learning camp.
From November 8 to November 11, the week-long theoretical course centered on the job duties of counselors, covering Party, League and class building, student daily affairs management, mental health education and counseling work, career planning and employment and entrepreneurship guidance, and the official documents writing and practice.
In the first lecture, Mr. Bian Jianhua, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Arts and Communication, systematically introduced the relevant work of counselors from the basic connotation of counselor, the ideas for student affairs, and the “aesthetic education+” ideological and political education system, and encouraged students to improve their understanding of counselor work and enhance their own employment competitiveness through the counselor learning camp.
In the second lecture, Shan Tianyi, secretary of the Youth League Committee, provided detailed explanations and shared insights from three aspects: counselor related policy documents, how to carry out grade work, and experience expansion and transfer. She also reminded students to clarify their work objectives and work ideas.
In the third lecture, Zeng Gehui, counselor of the Student Affairs Leading Group, shared his experience on how to do a good job in reward and financial support and mental health education, and emphasized the need to have a comprehensive understanding of students’ personal situations and to implement precise strategies.
In the fourth lecture, Chen Xiliang, director of the Party Building Office, provided a detailed introduction to the Party building work of the School of Arts and Communication from three aspects, namely, system and norms, content flow and characteristic activities, and shared the basic knowledge of Party building with students.
In the fifth lecture, Huo Shaomeng, a counselor from the School of Earth Resources, systematically introduced manuscript writing, and proposed targeted suggestions for students to establish a writing material library and innovate through reference based on his personal experience in writing official documents.
In the sixth lecture, Sun Yuyao, a counselor from the School of Mathematics and Physics, gave a detailed modular explanation on counselor interview preparation and job-seeking resume production, and shared STAR and USP rules with students to highlight personal competitiveness.
In the seventh lecture, Yang Ying, the moral education assistant of the School of Arts and Communication, sorted out relevant work content and reflected on insights in the form of monthly event records based on her work experience as a part-time counselor.
In the eighth lecture, Zhao Mengxiao, a graduate of Grade 2023 (who previously served as a part-time counselor at the school and has now joined Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) as a counselor), shared her personal experience in preparing for the counselor exam and her written interview skills, and encouraged students to put their minds at ease and try boldly.
Next, from November to December, all members of the counselor learning camp will spend 1-2 weeks on internships in the student affairs leading group, with counselors providing one-on-one guidance.
The theoretical study of this counselor learning camp has an important guiding role in further enhancing graduates’ employment awareness, guiding them to understand the employment situation, and establishing a good outlook on employment and career choice. The School of Arts and Communication will continue to provide students with precise and efficient career services and guidance to promote high-quality employment for graduates in 2024.

The content of this learning camp covers all aspects of counselor work, from workflow to psychological work, from grade work to party building work; each part of the camp provided me with a rich knowledge reserve and also stimulated me to think at a deeper level.
