(Reported by Zhang Meizhen, Ning Wei and Shan Tianyi) On the afternoon of November 11, there was good news from the 2023 CHERO “Yangtze River Cup” Hubei All Media Host Newcomer TV Competition. Wang Zhiyu, an undergraduate student of Grade 2022 from the Department of Journalism and Communication of this School, won the silver award, Zhao Jiatong, an undergraduate student of Grade 2021, and Zhao Dayu, an undergraduate student of Grade 2022 from the Department of Journalism and Communication, won the finalist awards, and China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) won the organization award.

This competition is hosted by the Hubei Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Hubei Media Group, and organized by the Hubei Television Artists Association and Hubei Changjiang Cloud New Media Group.

This is the first time CUG has participated in this event. Since the official launch of the competition on October 20, our school has positively responded and organized students to participate.

On the evening of November 3, the Department of Journalism and Communication organized an on-campus preliminary round. Through the competition of self-presentation and topic commentary, based on the scoring results of the four judges, three outstanding students, namely Wang Zhiyu, Zhao Jiatong and Zhao Dayu, were selected to represent our school to participate in the competition.

On November 8, the Hubei Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles organized an expert review. The contestants introduced themselves and simulated hosting through short videos. By reviewing program videos, the experts review group conducted detailed discussions and strict scoring on the contestants’ pronunciation standards, appearance requirements, artistic expression and appeal. Twenty TV hosting newcomers were finally selected as semi-finalists, among which Wang Zhiyu would represent China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) to participate in the semi-finals of the competition.

On November 11, the semi-finals and finals of the “Yangtze River Cup” Hubei All Media Host Newcomer TV Competition were held in the studio of Hubei Media Group. The 20 finalists engaged in fierce competition on-site through talent exhibitions, live streaming sales and impromptu hosting.

The competition ultimately selected 2 gold awards, 4 silver awards, 6 bronze awards, as well as several excellence awards and organizational awards.

The expert judges at the scene highly affirmed Wang Zhiyu’s talent and calm temperament in the competition, which was something that other contestants can learn from, even though he did not major in broadcasting and hosting.
