At 14:30 on Oct. 8, 2023, the Opening Ceremony for New Students of Grade 2023 of the School of Arts and Communication, CUG officially started in Room 109 of No. 3 Teaching Building. Jin Xi, secretary of the Party Committee of the School, He Qingjun, dean of the School, Zhang Meizhen, Yang Zhe, Yuan Yue and Peng Jing, deputy deans of the School, Zhou Li, head of the Department of Music, Zhou Li, secretary of the Party Branch of the Department of Music, Ning Wei, head of the Department of Journalism and Communication, Shang Yuanyuan, secretary of the Party Branch of the Department of Journalism and Communication, Xu Li, deputy head of the Department of Visual and Media Design, Cheng Huangxin, secretary of the Party Branch of the Department of Landscape Science, Cheng Chi, deputy dead of the Department of Landscape Science, Li Weina, director of the Office of the School, Wang Qi, Zeng Zhen, Cai Aixin and Zheng Dandan, class directors for freshmen, all the teachers of the School, and all undergraduate and postgraduate students of Grade 2023 attended the opening ceremony, which was presided over by Bian Jianhua, deputy secretary of the Party Committee.
First, under the presidency of Bian Jianhua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, all teachers and students sang the national anthem together, opening the opening ceremony with sonorous and powerful notes.
Second, He Qingjun, dean of the School, delivered a speech on behalf of the School. He extended a warm welcome to all the new students of Grade 2023, introduced the basic situation of the School, and put forward three hopes and suggestions for the new students: learn to plan their time; master learning methods; strengthen practical learning.
Third, Zhu Di, spoke on behalf of the undergraduate freshmen of Grade 2023. On behalf of all the undergraduates of Grade 2023, she expressed her sincere gratitude and high respect to all the leaders and teachers of the university, and called on all of them to shoulder the future to build our country, and always strive for a better future of culture and art.
Fourth, Zhao Yiting, the representative of new graduate students of Grade 2023, made a speech. She called on the students to dedicate to the motherland with a spirit of struggle from the three aspects of hard work, simplicity, truthfulness and pragmatism, forging ahead with dreams, and be down-to-earth and realistic to consciously shoulder the mission of the times.
Fifth, Yu Jifei, chairman of the Undergraduate Student Union, made a speech. On behalf of all current undergraduates, he wished the new students a fruitful, fulfilling and happy university experience, and thanked them for injecting fresh blood into the university.
Sixth, Li Na, chairman of the Graduate Association delivered a speech. She called on the new graduate students to strive for excellence, broaden their knowledge, unite their hearts, understand and tolerate, and encouraged them to take the initiative to go to the grassroots where conditions are difficult and frontline of national construction.
Seventh, Zhou Li, a teacher from the Department of Music, delivered a speech. She pointed out that the university is full of challenges: if you don’t advance, you will fall back. She also passed two words to the students: one is "new", that is, a new environment, new opportunities and new challenges; the second is "heart", that is, concentrated attention, dedication and love for art.
Eighth, the outstanding students in military training were commended, and deputy dean Zhang Meizhen read out the decision on commending the outstanding students in military training of the School. 25 students including Shi Yue, Zhao Simeng, Wang Yiran, Chen Jialu and Zhu Qiqi were awarded the title of “University-level Outstanding Individual in Military Training”; 14 students including Li Zhengyue, Li Yixuan, Zhong Aiyuan, Zhou Shuning and Yu Xinying were awarded the title of “School-level Outstanding Individual in Military Training”. Zhang Meizhen, Yuan Yue and Peng Jing, the three deputy deans, presented awards to the winning students.
Finally, Jin Xi, secretary of the Party Committee of the School, made a concluding speech. As a “experienced person” who has stayed in the University for more than twenty years, Secretary Jin put forward three expectations and suggestions to the students (being upright is the root of growth, and deep roots are the key to flourishing leaves; perseverance is the key to success, and mastering the essentials is the key to growing one’s abilities; characteristic is the path to success, and the path determines fate), and hoped that students could make good plans for their future university life, work hard for a long time, and strive tirelessly.
