On the afternoon of September 26, the Party Branch of the Department of Landscape Science of this school organized a branch activity that integrated on-site teaching and practical research, with the theme of voting on the overall planning and design scheme of the new campus phase II in the comprehensive hall of the ground floor of the labor union for some students of Grade 2021 majoring in environmental design.
“The new campus phase II project, which is planned and constructed in response to the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative, is designed not only to meet the needs of international school running and inter-country fulfillment, but also to provide strong support for the university to accelerate the realization of its long-term goal of ‘building a world-class university in the field of geosciences’. The voting results will serve as an important reference for the final decision of the University.” Party branch secretary Cheng Huangxin briefly introduced the significant significance of the Phase II project of the new campus.
Associate Professor Li Daibin, head of the department, analyzed the plans and explained relevant planning theories to the students from a professional perspective based on the physical materials such as planning texts and sand table models of the three selected schemes. Deputy department head Cheng Chi, branch secretary Cheng Huangxin, and party member teachers Chen Ru and Wang Qi shared their understanding of the three planning schemes with students from different perspectives such as ecology, suitability, aesthetics and practicality in combination with their professional knowledge.
The students listened carefully, watched carefully, and asked questions to the teachers from time to time.
Teachers took this scheme selection as an opportunity to guide students to apply textbook knowledge to real scenarios, to construct a scientific evaluation system with their own professional training, to make their own choices with thinking and rationality, and to cast their own solemn votes.
We organize students to participate in the voting activity for Phase II overall planning of the new campus. Not only because it provides a very real application scenario, which allows students to think deeply about what they have learned in the classroom and further realize the importance of integrating environmental design theories with real life, but also further enhances their sense of professional identity, which will help them in their future career choices.” Professor Li Daibin, head of the department, explained the significance of the activity to the students present.
This on-site teaching activity is a beneficial attempt by the Party Branch of the Department of Landscape Science to promote the integration of party building and business. In the future, the Party Branch of the Department of Landscape Science will leverage its professional advantages to encourage party members to focus on themes such as landscape planning and design, ecological environment restoration, and natural and cultural heritage protection, and lead teachers and students to contribute to the construction of “Beautiful China and Habitable Earth”.
