Forging Ahead at the School of Arts and Communication|Entrance Education for Graduate Students of Grade 2023

In order to guide graduate students of Grade 2023 to firmly adhere to their lofty ideals and beliefs and to better integrate into the new learning, research and living environment, the School of Arts and Communication of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) carried out the entrance education on “Starting the Journey of Research” on September 8 in Room 1104 of the building of the school. Peng Jing (deputy dean of the School), Bian Jianhua (deputy secretary of the Party Committee), Shan Tianyi (graduate counselor), Chen Xiliang (director of the Party Building Office), Yu Shuo (graduate teaching secretary) and all graduate students of Grade 2023 attended the meeting, which was presided over by Shan Tianyi (graduate counselor).

In the first session of the meeting, Bian Jianhua, deputy secretary of the Party Committee, introduced the school situation and provided education on graduate studies and career planning. Mr. Bian first introduced the basic situation of the school from historical evolution, major settings, teaching achievements and management system, and then he proposed that all the new students should make a good life plan and define three goals (ideological goals, academic goals and career goals), become a manager in four aspects: time manager, physical manager, emotional manager and wealth manager, and deal with multiple interpersonal relationships such as classmates, dormitory relationship, mentoring relationship, team relationship, and so on.

In the second session of the meeting, deputy dean Peng Jing and graduate teaching secretary Yu Shuo gave lectures on postgraduate training programs and postgraduate management system, academic style and academic ethics education. Ms. Peng made a systematic explanation of graduate education in four aspects, namely, discipline construction, talent cultivation, degree management and academic standards, and introduced the new graduate training mode of “three integrations and three cross”. At the end, Ms. Peng sent a message to the new students of Grade 2023, she hoped that they should love their major, expand their horizons and patterns, and constantly refine their own character, forge ahead with determination, and live up to their youth.

Mr. Yu answered students’ questions on specific issues such as course selection, semester registration, leave procedures, and years of study, and reminded them to pay attention to the group notification in time and keep close contact with the school through multiple channels.

In the third session of the meeting, Chen Xiliang, director of the Party Building Office, introduced the construction of Party organizations. Mr. Chen explained in detail the basic knowledge of the Party, the situation of the Party building office, the management of Party member service hours, and the cultivation and investigation of party activists, and suggested that the applicants for joining the party should be firm in their beliefs, correct their motives for joining the party, and always maintain a positive and progressive political enthusiasm.

In the fourth session of the meeting, graduate counselor Shan Tianyi gave a lecture on ideological education and innovation and entrepreneurship, and Li Na, chairman of the Graduate Union introduced the work of the Graduate Union. Ms. Shan led an in-depth study from the four aspects of ideological leadership, academic ethics, safety education and mental health, innovation and entrepreneurship and science popularization, and organized the new students to sign an academic integrity commitment letter on site to abide by academic ethics and resist academic misconduct. In the end, Mr. Shan encouraged the young students to take advantage of the opportunity of the times and achieve their best results on the track of youth.

Li Na, chairman of the Graduate Union, made a detailed introduction to the work of the Graduate Union from four aspects including organizational structure, work content, construction results and highlights of activities, and issued an invitation to all new graduate students to join the union and seek common development.

The School of Arts and Communication will always adhere to the fundamental task of cultivating virtues and morality, focus on students and act as their guide and mentor, and cultivate socialist builders and successors who are all-rounded in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor.
