Reprinted from CUG News (Reported by Sun Yanqin and Wang Junfang) On the afternoon of July 9, the 13th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) successfully closed. The congress elected the 13th Committee and the Discipline Inspection Committee of the CPC, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). 25 people including Huang Xiaomei were elected to the new Party Committee, and 11 people including Tang Zhongyang were elected to the new Discipline Inspection Committee. The resolution on the report of the 12th Committee of the CPC China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and the resolution on the work report of the Discipline Inspection Committee of the CPC China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) were passed by voting. The closing ceremony was presided over by Wang Yanxin, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and President of CUG.
The Congress called on all levels of party organizations and all Party members of the university to follow the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, under the leadership of the Leading Party Group of the Ministry of Education of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the CPC Hubei Provincial Party Committee, and the new Party Committee of the university, to comprehensively implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), to thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, to adhere to the overall leadership of the CPC, and to put the party’s political construction in the first place, to deeply comprehend the decisive significance of establishing Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole and establishing the guiding role of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, become more conscious of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment with the central Party leadership, stay confident in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, uphold Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole and uphold the Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, to maintain a high degree of consistency with the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core in ideology, politics and action, to promote the deepening development of full and rigorous Party self-governance, to create a good political ecology with a clear and upright atmosphere, to forge ahead, develop and innovate, to accelerate the construction of an internationally renowned research university in the field of earth sciences, and to take on a new mission and show new achievements in building a strong power in education and serving Chinese modernization.
On the afternoon of the 9th, after careful discussion and consideration of the reports of the two committees by all delegations, the election was held. The Congress voted to adopt the election method and the lists of chief scrutineer, scrutineers, chief teller and tellers. The 13th Committee of the CPC China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and the 13th Discipline Inspection Committee of the CPC China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) were elected by margin election and secret ballot.
At the closing ceremony, the Congress voted to pass the Resolution of the 13th Congress of the CPC China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) on the “Report of the 12th Committee of the CPC China University of Geosciences (Wuhan)”. The Congress believed that the report followed the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, comprehensively reviewed the main work accomplished, remarkable achievements made and valuable experience formed since the 12th Party Congress of the University, profoundly analyzed the opportunities and challenges faced by the University on its new journey, put forward the historical mission of building a world-class university with discipline characteristics, and defined the key tasks of accelerating the construction of an internationally renowned Research university in the field of geosciences, which is of great significance as a guide for the reform and development of the University. The Congress agreed to the report’s scientific judgment of the new situation of the reform and development of the University and the planning and deployment of new tasks for building a research university. The Congress believed that the period from now to 2030 is a critical period for accelerating the building of an internationally renowned research university in the field of geosciences. The comprehensive implementation of a series of major national strategies, such as the strategy of revitalizing the country through science and education, the strategy of strengthening the country through talents, and the innovation driven development strategy, has put forward new challenges and higher goals for the University. We must adhere to a higher level of opening-up, deeper reform, and higher-quality innovation, increase vitality through opening-up, solve difficulties through reform, and promote development through innovation.
The Congress voted on and adopted the “Resolution of the Thirteenth Congress of the CPC China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) on the Report on the Work of the Discipline Inspection Committee of the CPC China University of Geosciences (Wuhan)”, and fully affirmed the work done by the Discipline Inspection Committee.
Comrade Huang Xiaomei delivered a closing speech. She pointed out that this conference is a united and victorious one, which inspires teachers and students to liberate their minds, reform and innovate, pursue excellence, and forge ahead. During the congress, all representatives faithfully performed their duties, seriously exercised their democratic rights, seriously considered the report of the Party Committee and the work report of the Discipline Inspection Commission with a high sense of political responsibility and historical mission, fully affirmed the work of the previous Party Committee and the Discipline Inspection Commission, conducted in-depth discussions on a number of major issues related to the Party building, reform, development and stability of the university, put forward a lot of pertinent opinions and suggestions, and jointly depicted a beautiful blueprint for the high-quality development of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) on a new journey in the new era, which further unified the thinking, consolidated consensus, and brought together the strength.
Huang Xiaomei stressed that the next five years are a critical period for accelerating the construction of an internationally renowned research university in the field of geosciences, and we are facing both major opportunities and challenges. The new Party Committee and Discipline Inspection Committee have a great responsibility and honorable mission, they must study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC more deeply, unify their thoughts and actions more consciously with the major decisions and deployments of the CPC Central Committee, remember the original mission of “educating people for the Party and the country”, unswervingly carry out the Party’s education policy, adhere to the fundamental task of cultivating virtue and talent, and insist on a higher level of opening-up, deeper reform, and higher-quality innovation, lead all Party members and cadres, teachers and students of the University to unite and seek truth from facts, stride forward towards the goals set at the 13th Party Congress with a more combative spirit and a more realistic and pragmatic work style, rapidly transform the beautiful vision depicted by the Party Congress into a clearer construction plan and responsibility statement, and then into real work results, so as to live up to the ardent expectations of the entire university faculty, students and alumni at home and abroad, and constantly write a new chapter of the high-quality development of the school cause.
Huang Xiaomei asked the representatives to continue to play a backbone role in promoting the reform and development of the University, provide advices and suggestions through various means, take the lead in studying, publicizing and implementing the spirit of the Party Congress, demonstrate and drive all teachers, students, and employees of the University to strive for excellence, and take practical action to implement the deployment of the requirements of the Party Congress. Party organizations at all levels and all Party members of the university should take the study, propaganda and implementation of the spirit of the 13th Party Congress of the university as an important political task, quickly set off a wave of study, propaganda and implementation, combine the comprehensive implementation of the work deployment of the 13th Party Congress of the University and the theme-focused education on studying and implementing Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, accurately grasp the spiritual essence and objective requirements, unify the thoughts, understanding, and actions of teachers and students into the decision-making and deployment of the Congress, and ensure that all decisions and deployments of the Congress are implemented and effective.
Huang Xiaomei emphasized that on the new journey in the new era, let us unite more closely around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, follow the guidance of the spirit of the 20th Party Congress of the CPC, deeply comprehend the decisive significance of establishing Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole and establishing the guiding role of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, become more conscious of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment with the central Party leadership, stay confident in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, uphold Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole and uphold the Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, carry the mission and responsibility of the national team, work hard to accelerate the building of an internationally renowned research university in the field of geosciences, and then realize the “CUG Dream” of building a world-class university in the field of geosciences, and make new and greater contributions to building a strong power in education as well as promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese modernization.

After the closing meeting, the first plenary session of the 13th Committee of the CPC China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and the first plenary session of the 13th Discipline Inspection Committee of the CPC China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) were held, at which the members of the Standing Committee, and the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the 13th Committee of the CPC China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), as well as the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the 13th Discipline Inspection Committee of the CPC China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) were elected.
