Design Science of the School of Arts and Communication departed from Wuhan and went to Wuyuan County, Jiangxi Province for a 12-day practice tour.
The first stop was Likeng. Likeng, formerly known as “Liyuan”, is an ancient village in China, located in Tuochuan Township, Wuyuan County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. It was founded in the late Northern Song Dynasty. The villagers love reading, advocate “reading the books of Zhu Zi, obeying Zhu Zi’s teachings, and upholding Zhu Zi’s etiquette", so it is praised by literati and scholars as the “origin of Neo Confucianism”.
The students started to paint the beauty of Likeng and the surrounding area of the base with their paintbrushes after an inspection in Likeng. Gathering together after the painting, the teacher explained our paintings so that we had a clearer understanding and appreciation of this sketching.
Subsequently, we went to Huangling Scenic Area for sketching, inspection, and photography. The terraced fields in Huangling were covered in emerald green, and the village gathered air and clouds, known as the “terraced cloud home”. Huangling is a typical mountain dwelling village, with residential buildings arranged in a fan-shaped staircase pattern around the water inlet. The scenic area is composed of cableway aerial viewing, visiting ancient village, terraced flower sea, rural folk customs and other sightseeing areas.
As the third stop, we went to Jingdezhen for inspection, visiting scenic spots such as Royal China, Ceramic Art Revenue, Sculpture Porcelain Factory, and Sanbao International Ceramics. In the scenic spots of Jingdezhen, we can glimpse all the processes of porcelain production. Time seems to have slowly stopped in the smoke and dust of porcelain, allowing us to appreciate the growth of art in the gaps of the times.
As the fourth station, we came to Wuyuan for sketching and studying, visited Hongguan where there is “the first camphor in south China”, and “the most beautiful ancient village” Lingjiao Village, Jin Yong’s Former Residence and Zha’s Ancestral Hall. Warm and gentle sunshine spread on the fields, the river water twinkled like stars, and country roads were interspersed with the Hui Style Buildings, which were very beautiful.
After more than ten days of sketching inspection and under the guidance of the teacher, we gained a lot and learned a lot of knowledge in this summer sketching inspection internship. We had a clearer understanding of painting and a stronger determination and direction for future creation. Finally, we gathered together and the teacher analyzed and explained our paintings of these days and summarized this sketching inspection internship. This pleasant journey of sketching ended.
