[Jiuli Sunlight in Xinjiang]|The First Meter of Sunlight: Setting off - Xinjiang, Here We Come!

September 4, 2023

General Secretary Xi Jinping once said at a research symposium in Xinjiang, “I was sent to Northern Shaanxi at that time and longed for this place. Su Dongpo said in a poem, ‘Eating 300 lychees a day, I will be a Lingnan person without hesitation’. In Xinjiang, there are baked Nang, pilau, lamb kebabs, Hami melon, grapes and so on, so we have good reason to say, ‘Being a Xinjiang person without hesitation’.”

General Secretary Xi emphasized in the report of the 20th National Congress of CPC that “The young people should unswervingly follow the instructions and guidance of the Party, embrace dreams and be down-to-earth, dare to think, do well, and achieve success. They should aspire to be good young people of the new era who have ideals, dare to take responsibility, can endure hardships, and are willing to strive.” Facing the needs of the west, the grassroots, the motherland and the people, the Jiuli Sunlight Art Teaching Assistance Group of the School of Arts and Communication, in order to implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi’s reply to the students of the Science and Technology Backyard of China Agricultural University, at the beginning of the second decade of the teaching assistance activities, closely combines classroom learning and rural practice. Under the leadership of Bian Jianhua, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School, and Shan Tianyi and Zeng Gehui, the counselors of the Student Affairs Leading Group, 16 members of the team left for the Red Flag Farm School of the Sixth Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on July 4 to carry out summer art teaching assistance activities.

At five o’clock in the morning, the light was dim. The teachers and students of the Jiuli Sunlight Team took a bus from the north gate of CUG to Tianhe Airport, and then took a plane to cross thousands of miles before finally arriving in Urumqi. Along the way, everyone raised a song of youth for Xinjiang with full anticipation and enthusiasm!

Different landforms on the route to Urumqi

Team members arrived in Urumqi

Upon arrival in Urumqi, everyone was attracted by the unique customs and traditions here. On the scorching summer day, the enthusiastic sunshine poured over everyone, injecting vitality and strength. During lunch, everyone tasted authentic Xinjiang mixed noodles, with a rich aroma and delicious taste, which once again deepened the members’ “first encounter” emotions towards this land. On the bus to the Red Flag Farm School, looking out the window, the wide fields and rolling hills are refreshing, the students sang all the way, in high spirits, and the songs drove away the fatigue along the way.

Team members arrived at Red Flag Farm

After arriving at the Red Flag Farm, team members took a break and began to engage in the preparation and discussion of subsequent teaching courses. This art teaching assistance activity will offer music classes (including piano and choir classes), art classes (including painting and handicraft classes), Mandarin classes, and physical education classes at Hongqi Farm School. The Jiuli Sunlight Art Teaching Assistance Group will take advantage of more than ten years of teaching experience, focus on “art + education poverty alleviation”, “art + science popularization”, “art + rural revitalization”, and give full play to its own professional strengths and art specialties, to carry out practical activities in the western region of the motherland, Xinjiang, so as to stimulate the local children’s interest in and love for “beauty”, to cultivate their perspective on the world with “beauty”, and to help them broaden their horizons and establish lofty ideals, and to promote their “wisdom” by helping them develop their own “aspirations”.

In addition, the team will carry out visits and research in conjunction with the social practice activities, digging deeply into the spirit of the Corps and the spirit of poplar in the spiritual genealogy of the Communist Party of China, and drawing spiritual strength from the field study to build a strong sense of community of the Chinese nation. “Red blood, red flag, grow up under the red flag”; next, let’s follow the Jiuli Sunlight team to start a vivid and rich teaching trip on the Red Flag Farm!
