[Jiuli Sunlight in Xinjiang]|The Second Meter of Sunlight: Lesson Preparation

September 4, 2023

On the morning of July 5, under the leadership of Bian Jianhua, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Jiuli Sunlight Art Teaching Assistance Group experienced the natural environment near the Hongqi Farm School of the Sixth Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. It is located at the southeast edge of the Junggar Basin, echoing the beautiful Tianshan Mountains in the south and the Gurbantunggut Desert in the north, “elegant in spring, verdant in summer, colorful in fall, serene in winter”. Through Secretary Bian’s explanation, team members learned about the unique regional landscape and customs of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. Unlike buildings built with cement and steel bars in cities, people living here use the wisdom of the working people to build a flat house that is warm in winter and cool in summer. Along the way, golden wheat fields, endless green vegetable fields, and hops vines winding around the shelves, and the ripe grape trellis waiting to ripen have all put the members in a good mood.

Every inch of landscape here is scenery, different sceneries have different stories, and every story is a legend. On the way to visit, team members saw sheep and camels in the shed, as well as brightly colored red flowers one after another. Out of curiosity, they came forward to take photos as souvenirs. According to reports, since the third Central Xinjiang Work Symposium, the Party Committee of Hongqi Farm has seized policy opportunities and encouraged herdsmen to establish breeding cooperatives to develop together. This has changed the previous situation of “insufficient scale and low income of breeding” and paved the way for the development of ecological animal husbandry with farm characteristics, allowing local workers to truly live a good life. Meanwhile, Hongqi Farm is also the hometown of the famous Xinjiang “Beiting” saffron, which has a long history of saffron planting and is one of the saffron bases in Xinjiang with the most concentrated planting area, the highest yield and the best quality.

As time passes and the sea changes, the interior of this land remains unchanged. Since its establishment, Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps has made indelible historical contributions and played an irreplaceable strategic role in the development and construction of border areas, enhancing national unity, maintaining social stability, and consolidating the northwest frontier defense. For over 70 years, generations of members of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps have worked and lived in the forefront of the country, at the edge of the desert, and on the frontline of the border. With their youth and passion, they have built an oasis of life in the ancient wilderness, created human miracles in the vast desert with their wisdom and sweat, and nurtured and enriched the spirit of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps with the main connotation of “love for the motherland, selfless dedication, hard work, and pioneering and enterprising”. The field visits have deepened the understanding and perception of the spirit of the Corps, and this spiritual belief will also encourage the members to carry out the aesthetic education activities in the coming days with the original intention of “hard work, simplicity, truthfulness and pragmatism”.

Next, Jiuli Sunlight Art Teaching Assistance Group arrived at the Hongqi Farm School, the venue of this teaching activity. The members visited various basic hardware facilities and teaching equipment on campus, and had discussions with relevant leaders and teachers of the school to discuss the overall teaching arrangement. In the afternoon, they prepared lessons based on the suggestions. Finally, each group determined their own teaching plans, including class settings and course content. The volunteers are full of expectations for their volunteer teaching life in the coming days. We believe that all members will fully utilize their professional advantages and artistic expertise in this volunteer teaching activity, and sow the “seeds” of aesthetic education in the hearts of every child! Let's all look forward to the formal meeting with the kids tomorrow!
