At 14:30 on June 29, 2023, the School of Arts and Communication held a general meeting for all staff and faculty members of the School and the summer work arrangement meeting in the Lecture Hall 1104 of the Arts and Communication Building, and the leadership members, all faculty members and some student representatives of the School attended the meeting, which was presided over by Jin Xi, secretary of the Party committee.
Chen Sheng, deputy director of the Campus Planning and Infrastructure Department, and Cheng Zhou Bing, chief of the Repair Project Management Department, were invited to attend the meeting. Deputy Director Chen Sheng made a special presentation on the maintenance and renovation project of the school building during the summer vacation. In response to the concerns of teachers and students about the building renovation plan, construction scope, construction period arrangement, expected effect and precautions during the construction period, Deputy Director Chen Sheng made a detailed introduction one by one, and put forward the work opinions and suggestions such as the establishment of the special school and department work team and communication mechanism.
Bian Jianhua, deputy secretary of the Party committee made arrangements for ideological and political education and related management of students during the summer vocation. He pointed out that all teachers, class teachers and counselors should pay attention to the safety education of students returning home, staying in school and going out for internship during summer vacation, and keep abreast of students’ study, life, internship and thought dynamics. After informing the employment data of the graduates in 2023, he emphasized that teachers should keep close contact with students, actively implement the work requirement of “all staff focus on employment and fully promote employment”, not only “get on the horse” but also “give a ride”, provide necessary career development counseling and work guidance, and strive to let graduates successfully complete the role change and identity adaptation from campus life to career.
Deputy Dean Yang Zhe conveyed the “Implementation Plan for Self-Evaluation Undergraduate Programs” and other relevant documents of the University and the spirit of the meeting on self-evaluation of undergraduate programs of the School, and deployed the School’s specific implementation initiatives, schedule planning, material collection and summarization, data analysis and filling, report writing and review, and other work. He emphasized that the evaluation of undergraduate programs should adhere to the principles of “goal-oriented, sustainable development, objective evaluation and comprehensive investigation”, and the evaluation conclusion will be an important basis for the university to carry out dynamic adjustment of the professional structure and funding allocation, etc. All faculty members must pay high attention and take it seriously, set up a list against the standards and tables, assign responsibilities and make concerted efforts to ensure that the self-evaluation is completed on time.
Deputy Dean Zhang Meizhen made a deployment on strengthening and improving the scientific research work and enhancing the scientific and technological innovation capacity of the School. She pointed out that participating in high-level academic conferences during summer vacation is an important and effective way for professional teachers to expand their academic circle of friends and integrate into their academic peers. Based on the implementation of the 2023 Science and Technology Work Promotion Conference of the University and the “Notice on Several Measures to Vigorously Promote Science and Technology Innovation Work”, she analyzed relevant data of each major and put forward specific requirements on the work related to the science and technology innovation ability improvement plan of the School from the aspects of project and topic application, high-level monograph and paper publication, science and technology award application, and platform and think tank construction.
Dean He Qingjun made a comprehensive deployment of the six key tasks of the School in the near future and put forward clear requirements. First, the leadership team of each department and all faculty members should pay full attention to the self-evaluation of undergraduate programs from the ideological height and working dimension of implementing the concept of “undergraduate-based”, and should systematically sort out and summarize, promptly check the gaps and fill them in accordance with the working ideas of complete information, standardized management, clear responsibility and implementation in place, so as to effectively promote improvement and construction through evaluation. Second, we should strengthen scientific research work around the “distinctive and brand building”, use the “golden time” of summer vacation to plan, prepare and start early, on the one hand, strengthen the sustainability of the applied projects based on the existing achievements, on the other hand, continue to make efforts in teaching research such as teaching materials, construction of high-quality courses, and teaching achievement awards application. Third, all majors and disciplines should make efforts to create distinctive features and form breakthroughs in building academic research team and expanding the social influence and display of academic research results. Fourth, we should insist on doing a good job in attracting and training talents. All the faculty members should make full use of the summer vocation to contact the excellent doctors in their majors to contribution to the construction of the faculty. Fifth, we should strengthen the follow-up of graduates’ employment situation, guide students to establish the correct employment concept, and actively carry out the work of visiting enterprises to expand jobs and graduate employment quality survey. Sixth, we should do a good job of safety work for teachers and students during the summer vacation, especially during the internship, and strengthen the standard management during the internship and social practice.
Jin Xi, secretary of the Party Committee, conveyed the spirit and requirements of the relevant meetings at the higher level such as the Ministry of Education’s Teacher Morality Construction Work Promotion and Teacher Morality Concentrated Study and Education Launching Deployment Meeting and made a concluding speech. He pointed out that there are many teaching internships and social practice activities this summer, so the leaders and teachers should implement the requirement that safety responsibility is weightier than Mountain Tai with the sense of responsibility of “being assured at all times” to ensure smooth travel and safe return. At the same time, we should combine professional internship and social practice with the experience of beautiful China and the development of the times, so that teachers and students can be more confident in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics in discovering the beauty and feeling the changes of our motherland. We must fully cooperate with the school building renovation, overcome difficulties, and effectively carry out service guarantees such as on duty and emergency response during the summer vacation. He emphasized that all staff should adhere to the strategic goal of “building an internationally renowned research university in the field of earth sciences”, focus on the important issues of “teaching-based school”, “building a strong school through scientific research” and “prospering the school through faculty and staff”, which are related to the high-quality development of the School, study deeply with thoughts, implement based on the positions, understand changes and adapt to changes to strengthen the characteristics, unite to build new achievements, and meet the 13th Party Congress of CUG with a high state of mind and solid work performance.
