The Party Committee of the School of Arts and Communication conscientiously studies and implements the “Implementation Plan for Theme-focused Education on Thoroughly Studying and Implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” issued by the Party Committee of CUG; focusing on the general requirements of “learning ideology, strengthening party spirit, emphasizing practice, and making new achievements”, it combines the theme-focused education with the fundamental task of cultivating virtues and morality, combines the theme-focused education with the talent training, scientific research, discipline construction and other work of the school, integrates the requirements of theory study, investigation and research, development promotion and inspection and rectification, and strive to achieve tangible results in studying for forging the soul, studying for wisdom, studying for Party conduct, and studying for work promotion. From now on, a series of reports on this theme will be launched on the website of the School.
On June 15, the 37th “School Forum” and counseling report on studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era were held in Lecture Hall 1104 of Arts and Communication Building. The theme of this forum was “Create a new culture of our era - take up a new cultural mission to build modern Chinese”. Comrade Rong Xianming, editor-in-chief of People’s Daily Online Hubei, was invited to convey and interpret the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the Symposium on Cultural Heritage and Development. Wang Linqing, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of CUG, attended the forum, which was presided over by Jin Xi, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Arts and Communication.

Afterwards, Mr. Rong Xianming, the editor-in-chief, discussed four aspects, including “the inevitability of the times”, “the leap of thought”, “cultural consciousness” and “the opening up of civilization”, profoundly interpreting the new cultural mission that cultural workers should undertake in the new era and the historical responsibility of building a modern Chinese civilization.
Rong Xianming, the editor-in-chief, firstly led the comrades to review the relevant discussion on cultural construction in the report of the 20th National Congress of CPC and the important speech of General Secretary Xi Jinping at the symposium on cultural inheritance and development, once again emphasizing that adherence to and development of Marxism must be combined with the excellent Chinese traditional culture, and that the major issue of promoting the construction of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics and building a modern Chinese civilization should be well interpreted and studied.
Mr. Rong pointed out that creating a new culture of our time is the necessity of the times, which is the logical necessity of adhering to and developing the truth, the practical necessity of exploring the correct development path, and the mission necessity of opening up and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics. He explained the importance of creating a new culture of our time from the “leap of thought”, which indicated the high compatibility between Marxism and the excellent traditional Chinese culture, revealed an organic and unified new cultural life form, and reflected the cultural subjectivity of the Chinese nation.
Then Mr. Rong explained in detail the three dimensions of “cultural consciousness”. First, we should grasp the distinctive qualities and unique positioning of the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and firmly safeguard the roots and soul of the Chinese nation. Second, we should open up the historical depth and expand the cultural foundation of the road to socialism with Chinese characteristics. Third, we should open up innovation space and master the initiative of thinking and culture. Furthermore, Mr. Rong also emphasized that journalists should be committed to the four “clear explanations” in their work, implement the central policies and hold fast to the news front.
Mr. Rong Xianming pointed out that creating a new culture of our time is the opening of a new civilization. He drew inspiration from history, reality, and the future: to strengthen cultural confidence, ultimately lies in forging new brilliance in culture and creating new forms of civilization.

Finally, Comrade Jin Xi, secretary of the Party committee of the School of Arts and Communication, made a concluding speech on the content of the report. This forum is based on the important spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping at the symposium on cultural inheritance and development, with the theme of creating a new culture of our time, which is full of theoretical gold and strong academic inspiration. It is both a theme-focused educational counseling report to arm the mind and an academic guidance report to enlighten our teachers and students on discipline construction and talent cultivation.
