Review Meeting for Self-assessment of Master’s Degree Program in Journalism and Communication

(Reported by Cai Aixin; Photography: Liu Dingyao) On the morning of June 25, the expert review meeting for self-assessment of the masters degree program in journalism and communication was held in Conference Room 1209 of the Arts and Communication Building. Jin Xi, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Arts and Communication, He Qingjun, dean of the School, Bian Jianhua, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Zhang Meizhen, Yang Zhe, Yuan Yue and Peng Jing, deputy deans of the School, and representatives of teachers from the Department of Journalism and Communication attended the meeting.

 

 

 

 

Five off-campus experts were invited to review at the meeting, namely Prof. Zhang Mingxin, member of the Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, member of the Teaching Steering Committee of Journalism and Communication of the Ministry of Education and dean of the Journalism and Information Communication School, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Hong Jiewen, deputy dean of the School of Journalism and Communication, Wuhan University, Prof. Wan Yi, dean of the School of Journalism and Communication of Central China Normal University, Prof. Liao Shengwu, former dean of the School of Journalism and Communication, Hubei University, and Prof. Yu Xiucai, deputy dean of the School of Journalism and Culture Communication, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law.

Jin Xi introduced the experts one by one and expressed his welcome and heartfelt thanks to them, introduced the background and purpose of the self-assessment of the degree program to the assessment panel, and hoped that the experts would take the pulse of the construction of the journalism and communication degree program and the national first-class undergraduate major construction of radio and television and pass on their experience.

 

Prof. Zhang Meizhen, deputy dean of the School, introduced in detail the construction of the journalism and communication degree program from four aspects, including the basic situation of the degree program, the effectiveness of the mid-term construction, the development status and existing problems, and the construction ideas and measures, and analyzed the development trend of the degree program and the first-class undergraduate major construction site in a self-diagnostic way.

 

On the basis of listening to the report, reviewing the information and on-site inquiry, the experts conducted in-depth discussion and comprehensive evaluation on the condensation of disciplinary characteristics, faculty construction and talent training quality of journalism and communication, and gave full affirmation and recognition to the achievements made in the construction of journalism and communication degree program. They believed that the disciplinary characteristics of the master’s degree program in journalism and communication are becoming more and more prominent; guided by the advanced development concept of “strengthening the foundation, emphasizing practice, seeking characteristics and entering the mainstream”, a more reasonable faculty structure has formed and the direction of postgraduate training is clear, the quality of talent training is steadily improving, and the contribution and display of service to society are constantly increasing, especially in promoting science popularization and dissemination around the theme of “Beautiful China and Habitable Earth”.

The expert group made reasonable suggestions on the construction of the teaching staff in the degree program, pointing out that there is still room for further improvement in the scale structure of the team and the high-level academic team. They also made pertinent suggestions on optimizing the curriculum and teaching materials system and expanding the student size. After collective discussion and evaluation, the expert group unanimously agreed that the periodic evaluation results of the degree program were excellent, and formed detailed comments.

 

 

 

 

Prof. He Qingjun, dean of the School, delivered a concluding speech. On behalf of the School, he expressed his gratitude to the experts for their guidance and support, as well as their full recognition of the construction of journalism and communication degree program. He believed that the experts’ opinions and suggestions were objective and precise, and the School would do a good job of studying, absorbing and transforming, and make targeted adjustments and improvements, to promote the high-quality development of journalism and communication degree program. Furthermore, he hoped that the experts would pay attention to and support the construction of journalism and communication degree program and postgraduate training work of our university as always.
