Let’s appreciate the work style of the May Fourth Red-Banner Youth League Committees together.

02 Basic Information

Vivid theme-focused lessons have been kept in mind. In order to further stimulate the political enthusiasm of young members, the Youth League Committee of the School of Arts and Communication has integrated ideological and political leadership into campus culture construction through thematic symposiums and special art Party lectures.

Immerse oneself in practice through exciting “second classroom”. Jiu Li Sunshine Art Voluntary Teaching Corps has been going to Zigui County for ten consecutive years to carry out “art+” social practice activities, enter the world of rural stay-at-home children in the form of art care, and guide them to observe and discover beauty in life. Over the past decade, the corps has dispatched more than 200 volunteers and has taught up to 10,000 students.

The melodies of aesthetic education continue to be played time and time again. Integrate aesthetic education resources, improve the aesthetic education practice center, and build a colorful aesthetic education platform for students to showcase beauty, practice beauty, and spread beauty by holding CUG anniversary concerts, art exhibitions, and participating in the recording of CCTV’s “Chorus Pioneers” and “Choral Spring Festival”.

Youth should not be defined, and we are born to the sun.

03 Detailed Deeds

In March, the spring breeze blew from the lover’s slope to the Building of the School of Arts and Communication, and the breeze filled with the fragrance of wisteria flowers brushed past a cluster of dandelion buds, reflecting a bit of hidden bright yellow in the sunlight.

Looking from the wisteria corridor in the north part of Nanwangshan Campus of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), the downstairs of the School of Arts and Communication, where “educating people with beauty and cultivating people with culture”, was full of busy young members, some of them holding palettes to modify the works on the drawing board again and again, some wearing performance costumes to adjust the movements of the characters on the stage again and again, and some carrying tripods to change the scenes in the camera one by one.

Free, simple, inclusive and open, this is the School of Arts and Communication full of humanistic atmosphere, where the young members from the Youth League Committee of the School of Arts and Communication are seeking knowledge, growing and practicing. They run on the major professional platforms both on and off campus and participate in various competitions and volunteer activities; they are excited, confident, hasty, or embarrassed, and all these are the appearance of youth at the right time.

Keeping Vivid Theme-focused Lectures in Mind

The year 2022 is the year of the 20th Party Congress of CPC and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Youth League of China. In order to further stimulate the political enthusiasm of young members, the Youth League Committee of the School of Arts and Communication organized a series of diverse theme-focused education activities to integrate ideological and political leadership into campus culture construction.

Follow the Party on a new journey. At the symposium for students and teachers to study the spirit of the 20th National Congress of CPC, Liu Miaocong, a young league member majoring in Digital Media Art, said in his speech, “The new era is an era to show our talents and skills, and it is an era that requires young people to be brave enough to face up to difficulties, to rise up and take action, and to shoulder heavy responsibilities. Young people should dare to have dreams, be brave in pursuing them, and strive to fulfill them.”

At the same frequency as youth; resonate with the times. The School took advantage of its professional strengths and highlighted the characteristics of its disciplines to carry out the art party class on the theme of “Carrying Dreams, Marching with Faith” to welcome the victory of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which showed the red spirit and genealogical Chinese power formed by the Party during its century-long journey through various artistic forms such as scene performance, chorus and dance, attracting more than 2,100 people to watch online synchronously.

The new matrix of the internet plays the main melody. Online ideological and political education has gained new vitality in the new media era with the help of “WeChat, Weibo, client side and official account”. The WeChat official account CUG Arts & Communication produces high-quality content based on professional resources. On a platform that is popular among young league members, it allows people to talk about their own affairs and leads a group of Communist Youth League members to “always be positive” with the deeds of young role models. The exclusive interview “Nian Yue – A Fun Popular Science Blogger Became Popular on the Network” made more people understand the original intention and persistence behind the young league member Nianyue’s harvest of millions of Tiktok fans. The original short film “Dream of the Volunteer Educators” showed everyone the appearance of generations of volunteer educators who spread love and hope for their volunteer dreams.

Engaging in Practice through Wonderful Second Classroom

Practice teachers people the real knowledge; volunteer service shows the style. In 2022, the volunteer registration rate of the Youth League Committee of the School of Arts and Communication reached 100%, and a total of 22 volunteer activities were held throughout the year, with over a thousand participants. Whether it was assisting the community in nucleic acid testing, material distribution and other epidemic prevention work during the outbreak of COVID-19, or participating in the social practice activity of “supporting education online to welcome the Winter Olympics” during the Winter Olympics, the volunteers from the School of Arts and Communication were sweating freely on the campus and by the East Lake and practicing their youth oath with practical actions. They deeply understood the spirit of “dedication, friendship, mutual assistance and progress” and established their correct labor values in volunteer services.

Fan Xiaohe, from the 165202 Youth League Branch of the School of Arts and Communication, was the captain of the 2022 Jiu Li Sunshine Art Voluntary Teaching Corps. That was her second time to participate in voluntary teaching activities, from being a team member in the first year to being the captain in the second year, the responsibility and perseverance in her heart made her complete the identity change, “I don't know how much impact this short ten-day teaching can bring to the children, but I believe that our young blood, passed down from generation to generation, can guide them towards a path full of sunshine and hope.”

Persistence is victory, as long as you strive for success. Jiu Li Sunshine Art Voluntary Teaching Corps has been going to Zigui County in Yichang City, Hubei Province for ten consecutive years to carry out “art+” social practice activities, enter the world of rural stay-at-home children in the form of art care and promotion, and guide them to observe and discover beauty in life. Over the past decade, the corps has dispatched more than 200 volunteers and has taught up to 10,000 students. Peaches and plums in the mountains fruit year after year, and volunteers come group after group. They are all the waves contributing to the rural revitalization strategy and the most brilliant chapter of youth. Youth relay for eternal love.

Melodious Aesthetic Education Melody

In 2022, under the leadership and guidance of the Party Committee of the School, the Youth League Committee of the School integrated aesthetic education resources, further improved the team building of the Aesthetic Education Practice Center on the basis of streamlining the organizational structure and revising the management regulations, and regularly launched training for core cadres, to build a colorful aesthetic education platform for students to display beauty, practice beauty and spread beauty in all respects.

After seventy years development, CUG is just in its prime. In order to celebrate the 70th anniversary of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), the School of Arts and Communication held 16 theme concerts based on its professional development objectives. After four months of hard preparation, the Communist Youth League members and professional teachers from the major of music presented their artistic music to the 70th anniversary of the university, bringing an unparalleled audio-visual feast to thousands of audiences.

Nourish the heart with beauty, cultivate the soul with beauty, and educate people with beauty. “The team from the School of Arts and Communication, China University of Geosciences is a collective that loves art and works diligently”, director Wang Xiaoming of CCTV Music Channel gave a thumbs up during the conversation. In April 2023, 26 Communist Youth League members from the Star Choir of the School of Arts and Communication were invited to participate in the recording of CCTV’s "Chorus Pioneers” for the fifth time. Under the guidance of professional teachers, they performed in four songs, such as “Farewell” and “Farewell to Youth”, singing with true emotions to praise the great era. Jiang Ziyi, who participated in the program recording for the first time, said, “Everyone is a small part of a wonderful program, and only by not slacking off can we form a perfect whole. This is just the power of the collective.”

The base color of youth is bright and colorful, and the youth should be free and enthusiastic. The Communist Youth League members of the School of Arts and Communication are emitting their own light on their respective beloved stages, and that light, though faint and small, is brilliant, gathering like a fire, scattered like stars in the sky. Youth is not defined, and we are born to the sun.

The Youth League Committee of the School of Arts and Communication will continue to lead our students to be the producers of popular geography, disseminators of excellent Chinese culture, and practitioners of aesthetic education work! We will create a new chapter in the new era with the youth vows.
