[Series Report] Graduation Exhibitions Show the Substantial Education Achievements

Editor’s note: At present, all CPC members and all people from the leadership to the masses in CUG are carrying out the theme-focused education on studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in accordance with the requirements of the “Opinions of the CPC Central Committee on Thoroughly Implementing Theme-focused Education on Studying and Implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era”. The Party Committee of the School of Arts and Communication conscientiously studies and implements the “Implementation Plan for Theme-focused Education on Thoroughly Studying and Implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” issued by the Party Committee of CUG; focusing on the general requirements of “learning ideology, strengthening party spirit, emphasizing practice, and making new achievements”, it combines the theme-focused education with the fundamental task of cultivating virtues and morality, combines the theme-focused education with the talent training, scientific research, discipline construction and other work of the school, integrates the requirements of theory study, investigation and research, development promotion and inspection and rectification, and strive to achieve tangible results in studying for forging the soul, studying for wisdom, studying for Party conduct, and studying for work promotion. From now on, a series of reports on this theme will be launched on the website of the School.

Since the launch of the theme-focused education on studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the School of Arts and Communication, based on its teaching reality and in accordance with the specific requirements of “improving the quality of independent talent training” in the “Implementation Plan”, takes the graduation exhibition as an important link in the talent training and strictly controls the “exit gate” to improve the quality of student training.

Since May 2023, the School of Arts and Communication of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) has successively held postgraduate and undergraduate graduation exhibitions at the exhibition hall on the first floor of the building of the school. Through short videos, tweets and other forms, the School made efforts to promote on the CUG website, WeChat official account and other platforms and displayed online and offline simultaneously. The exhibition of visual communication design is still being held in the “one-stop” community in the western quarter for the second time, and the works are unanimously praised by the teachers and students of the university.

The graduates used art and design to promote traditional Chinese culture and express their love for the country. With the title of “Art and design light up a better life”, Shanhe Network Studio published a commentary article, saying that Chinese elements are clearly reflected in the design works, natural ecology is particularly eye-catching in the design works, life is warm in the design works, the trend of the times is highlighted in the design works, and innovation and creativity are ubiquitous in the design works. From these graduation design works, we can see that the students have integrated the “individual” into the “greater self”, showing the professional ability and responsibility of young people in art and design of CUG.

During the graduation exhibition, many teachers and students came to visit and gave their feelings and valuable suggestions. Among them, Mr. He Dong from Dadi Aesthetic Studio said, “In the journey of building a cultural power, the graduate students are becoming more and more confident in Chinese culture and consciously incorporate their love for the country into their graduation design works. Art and design, like other creative activities, have different trends and aesthetic preferences in different eras. These design works all conform to the trend of people’s yearning for a better life. Contemporary art and design should resonate with the whole economy and society, not behind closed doors nor solitary and self-appreciative.”

The School of Art and Communication firmly adheres to the overall requirements of theme-focused education and carries out graduation exhibition at the key point of graduation season, to effectively promote the quality and effectiveness of talent training. Through the graduation project exhibition, it not only encourages students to pay more attention to the quality of their graduation design works and invest more energy, but also showcases the practical achievements of the School’s high-quality education.
