“What has the ancient Yangtze River gone through during its formation and evolution?” “What is the key link of saving electricity, energy and promoting environmental protection?” “What is the magic power of the diamond that goes up to the moon?” “How does diatom flooding in rivers destroy human living environment?” On the afternoon of October 26, 2022, in the conference room 1308 of the School of Arts and Communication of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), the final review of the First Hubei Popular Science Micro Video Creation Competition on the Theme of “Beautiful China, Habitable Planet” was being held. So far the six-month popular science micro-video competition was successfully concluded.
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), to put into practice the study and implementation of Xi Jinping’s thought of ecological civilization and the university’s strategy of building a beautiful China and habitable planet, to prosper the popular science creation of the province, to innovate the way of science communication, and to promote the citizens’ ecological civilization awareness and scientific literacy, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and Hubei Association for Science and Technology jointly sponsored the First Hubei Popular Science Micro Video Creation Competition on the Theme of “Beautiful China, Habitable Planet”, which was organized by Hubei Association for Science and Technology Communication, and School of Arts and Communication and the Earth Science Popularization Research and Creation Center of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), and guided and supported by the Publicity Department of the Party Committee, the Anniversary Celebration Office, and the Department of Library, Archives, Culture and Museum of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan).
The activity started on April 30, 2022 and ended on October 20, 2022. The theme of works: Beautiful China, Habitable Planet, focusing on the construction of ecological civilization, the harmonious coexistence of man and nature, conservation of resources and protection of the environment, disaster prevention and mitigation, green development methods, low-carbon lifestyle and other aspects. The categories of works include popular science animation, popular science propaganda and education films, popular science MV, science fiction micro films and other short popular science videos. More than 90 entries from more than 30 universities and research institutes in the province were received. After 4 sessions of review, preliminary evaluation, re-evaluation and final evaluation by experts, a total of 40 pieces of works were awarded, including 2 grand prizes, 8 first prizes, 13 second prizes and 17 third prizes. After discussion by the organizing committee, Wuhan University, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Hubei University, South-Central Minzu University, Wuhan Textile University and Wuhan Geo-Travel Information Technology Company Limited (Geoparker) won the Excellent Organization Award.
