On Dec. 23, 2021, an exhibition of works of "Traditional Culture and Design”, which was the design of the invitation letter for the seventieth anniversary of the University entitled “Seventieth Anniversary, Dreaming on Future”, was opened in the exhibition hall of the School of Arts and Communication.
As an elective course of Visual Communication Design, the "Traditional Culture and Design” takes the invitation letter for the 70th anniversary of CUG in 2022 as the design carrier, and combines the classic graphics and artistic techniques in traditional decorative arts with the elements of China University of Geosciences. Under the leadership of course instructor Ms. Zhang Ziying, 43 undergraduate students in the design direction of Grade 2020 worked hard for 2 months and created 9 invitation proposals for the 70th anniversary of CUG that retained the traditional cultural flavor and had the characteristics of CUG.
Yang Zhe and Zhang Meizhen, deputy deans of this School, course instructor Zhang Ziying and the students of Grade 2020 in Design attended the opening ceremony. Yang Zhe and Zhang Meizhen praised the students for their high professional level and artistic quality in this design exhibition, which could not be achieved without the teachers' careful teaching and the students' high commitment and dedication to their works. As the students of School of Arts and Communication, we should bear in mind our responsibility and mission. “Educating with Aesthetics and Culture” is exactly what General Secretary Xi Jinping put forward for the youth in the new era at the National Education Conference, and the School should also carry forward our characteristics and blow the wind of aesthetic education throughout the campus of CUG.
Zhang Ziying, the course instructor, said: "Every year, we have to choose a meaningful topic of the course for students to challenge. Project-driven teaching is the main idea of course teaching. Because CUG will celebrate its seventieth birthday next year, at this special and important moment, as teachers and students of CUG, we should apply our professional abilities to present a special gift for the 70th anniversary. Through design, students' emotion and recognition of the University can be deepened, and campus culture can be well enriched. Design for CUG has always been an important theme of our teaching. "
