At 7 pm on December 2, 2021, the lecture of the School of Arts and Communication was held as scheduled at Room 202 of Complex Building in North Quarter. Professor Gong Yuhui from School of Art and Design, Wuhan University of Technology, was invited to share the topic. Mr. Gong has long been engaged in the teaching, creation and research of Chinese painting art and ceramic art. He has published several books, such as "Chinese Painting Workshop-Gong Yuhui", "Gong Yuhui Painting Collection", "2014 Gong Yuhui Chinese Painting · Porcelain Painting Collection", and "Gong Yuhui Landscape Painting".
In this lecture, with the title of "Analysis of the Origin and Development of Jingdezhen Ceramic Art", Mr. Gong explained the distinction and history of pottery and porcelain, the development and status of Jingdezhen and its ceramics, and showed the ceramic works he created at the end. This lecture will greatly promote the students’ in-depth understanding of Chinese ceramic culture and enhance their cultural confidence.
In the first part of the lecture, Mr. Gong briefly described the ceramic culture, introduced the differences between pottery and porcelain in raw materials, firing temperature and texture, as well as the historical development and reform of pottery and porcelain. Through this lecture, students had a deep understanding of the difference between pottery and porcelain, as well as the important position of ceramic culture in Chinese history and culture, and further appreciated the profoundness of Chinese ceramic culture.
The second part was about Jingdezhen and its porcelain-making culture. In this part, the students had an in-depth understanding of Jingdezhen's cultural heritage, ecological resources, and porcelain elements unique to Jingdezhen in urban and environmental enhancement design, such as the unique porcelain kiln models, porcelain towers, and porcelain cultural walls on the streets of Jingdezhen City.
In the third part, Mr. Gong focused on the art and craft history of porcelain making in Jingdezhen. With beautiful pictures and texts, he vividly demonstrated the various breakthroughs in crafts and techniques of Jingdezhen ceramics from the Eastern Han Dynasty to modern times. He also highlighted blue and white porcelain and so on. Next, by describing the current state of ceramic art in Jingdezhen, he told the students, "In the past half a century, Jingdezhen has been pioneering a new journey with the new scientific development concept, and has made great contributions to the development of ceramics in China."
Finally, in the fourth part, Mr. Gong showed the students his ceramic works, such as: "Oriental Red", "Blue Dream", "China Red", "Lin Feng Tu", "Pine-Wind Whispers", etc.
Unknowingly, the journey of Chinese ceramics culture came to an end. During the one-and-a-half hour lecture, Mr. Gong vividly told the students about the extensive and profound ceramic culture in our country. After the lecture, the students expressed their sincere thanks to Mr. Gong with warm applause. The lecture ended perfectly.
