A Training Lecture on Teacher’ Occupational Competence Upgrading Given by Vice President Lai Xulong

(Reported by Shen Yanhua, Feng Yan and Liu Dingyao) At 3: 00 p.m. on September 23, A Special Training Lecture on Occupational Competence Upgrading Program for Teachers in School of Arts and Communication was held in No. 1104 Lecture Hall of Arts and Communication Building. Vice-President Lai Xulong gave a theme-focused report entitled "Mission of Moral Education in Colleges and Universities in the New Era". Party Secretary Guo Xiurong presided over the meeting and all faculty members participated in the training.

First of all, President Lai started with the social responsibility of colleges and universities, and expounded the idea of cultivating talents: aiming at cultivating outstanding talents with noble moral character, solid foundation, profound specialty and unity of knowledge and practice. Then, in combination with the disciplinary characteristics of this School, he pertinently expounded the important role and responsibility of the School in talent cultivation, cultural inheritance and innovation. Subsequently, combined with the practical cases of his own learning, teaching, scientific research and student cultivation, he presented the connotation of the four-have good teachers in the new era: having ideals and beliefs, moral sentiment, solid knowledge and benevolence. At the same time, he stressed the outstanding deeds of good teachers around us, such as Chi Jishang, Li Dewei and Zhong Yang. He also pointed out that "a good teacher" could lead students to the correct direction of life and directly lead them to the forefront of science.

Secondly, Vice President Lai told his own experience in the process of talent training: 1. Morality first in talent cultivation; 2. The importance of extensive literature reading, good foreign language proficiency, problem thinking and critical thinking; 3. The necessary conditions for innovation: good atmosphere, inter-discipline and "challenging assumption and careful verification"; 4. Team cooperation spirit; 5. Perseverance and enduring loneliness; 6, Respecting but not blindly worshiping the authority, etc.

Party Secretary Guo Xiurong made a concluding speech, called on all teachers to conscientiously understand the spirit of the theme-focused training of "cultivating people by virtue" and implemented it in the personnel training work of this School .
