Class 6, Grade 2020 of the Department of Design Went to Xiangxi for Summer Practice (III)

September 23, 2021

(Correspondent: Song Ziyi) On July 18, 2021, the summer practice of Class 6, Grade 2020 of the Department of Design, School of Art and Communication, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) went on the eighth day. In the morning, we experienced the traditional craft of Xiangxi - batik.

Batik is a traditional textile printing and dyeing craft of ancient and old ethnic minorities in China. Batik looks very simple, that is, using crayons, dipping in heated and melted beeswax, to write patterns on plain hand-woven fabrics. However, after practice, students found that it was not easy to draw perfect and free lines with crayons, and many accidents and interesting things happened during the operation.

In the afternoon, Mr. Li Meng and Zhou Bin led us to the Liu-Deng Army Site in Hong’an, Chongqing, from Biancheng, a place described by Shen Congwen. Sitting on “Laladu”, it seemed that the time was fixed on the boat of Cuicui and Grandpa in “Biancheng”. The boat walked slowly in the river, very leisurely. This river is the boundary river separating the three provinces. In just five minutes, it crossed from Biancheng, Hunan Province to Hong’an, Chongqing. This crossing feeling was very novel.

The appearance of Liu-Deng Army Site is very solemn. It faces north, with quadrangle layout, brick and wood structure building, hard mountain roof and Howe beam frame. The width of the front house is 12.7 meters, the length is 11.65 meters, and the height is 9.1 meters. The width of the back room is 12.7 meters, the length is 8.8 meters, and the height is 7.2 meters. Before liberation, it was Fuxing Bank. After liberation, it was Hong’an Business Office of Agricultural Bank of China. Now, the business office has moved out. It is a demonstration base of clean government education in Chongqing and a patriotism education base in Chongqing.

Entering the site, the teachers explained to us the story of Liu-Deng army advancing into the “Second Field Army” headquarters in Southwest China. After the visit, we learned more about the Communist Party of China (CPC) s military style and the touching stories of the revolutionary predecessors against corruption, and felt more cordial and loving for the Party.

Finally, we reluctantly ended our visit and took “laladu” back to Biancheng.
