A Forum on Improving the Teachers’ Professional Competence Held by the School of Arts and Communication

 

To implement the results of the discussion on school running ideas, the School of Arts and Communication held a forum on improving the teachers’ professional competence on the afternoon of November 6. Fu Anzhou, vice president of the University, principal leaders of Academic Affairs Office and Youth League Committee, all leaders of the School of Arts and Communication, and party and government groups, staff representatives and student representatives of three-level units of the School attended the meeting.

Based on the results of the discussion on teaching ideas in the previous stage and the Notice on Printing and Distributing the “Implementation Plan of Aesthetic Education in the New Era” issued by the Univerrsity, Ning Wei, director of the Department of Journalism, Di Cheng, director of the Department of Vision and Media Design, Liao Qipeng, director of the Department of Landscape Science, and Zhou Li, Secretary of the Department of Music Performance, exchanged the opinions of the staff on how to strengthen the construction of teaching ability and implement the important task of aesthetic education in the new era.

Yang Zhe, deputy dean in charge of undergraduate teaching, Peng Jing, deputy dean in charge of postgraduate education, and Yuan Yue, deputy dean in charge of aesthetic education, delivered speeches. They believed that the major of teachers in the School of Arts and Communication involved musicology, art design, literature and other important fields of aesthetic education, so our School took incumbent responsibility for the aesthetic education work of the whole University, which was also an important development direction of teachers in the School of Arts and Communication. They said that in the future work, they would further establish the concept of discipline integration, improve the construction of relevant aesthetic education courses, implement the compilation of aesthetic education textbooks, take aesthetic education as the link to strengthen the teaching ability construction of the teachers, especially young teachers, and cultivate more excellent aesthetic education teachers, so as to make due contributions to the aesthetic education work of the University.

Wang Ying, deputy director of the Academic Affairs Office, made a speech. She pointed out that the classroom was the main channel for education, and the curriculum was the main battlefield for teachers. At present, from the national level to the school level, the emphasis on undergraduate teaching was gradually increasing, and aesthetic education was an important part of humanistic education and an important guarantee for improving students’ aesthetic and humanistic quality. She hoped that teachers, especially young teachers, in the School of Arts and Communication could make full use of online and offline education resources, make great efforts in curriculum design, teaching organization and teaching methods, and improve their teaching ability and make achievements in aesthetic education by means of exchange learning and participating in teaching competitions. She said that the Academic Affairs Office would further strengthen the communication and exchange with schools and teachers, and launch more targeted policies and measures in combination with the actual situation, so as to help teachers improve their teaching ability and implement aesthetic education in the new era.

You Meng, from the Youth League Committee of the University, expressed his gratitude to the School of Arts and Communication for its support to the work of the Youth League Committee of the University in art performance and the construction of art education base, and hoped to strengthen cooperation in the future, to jointly implement the aesthetic education of the University in the new era.

Wu Renxi, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Arts and Communication, believed that under the layout of the University, the School should be more active in carrying out aesthetic education, get ready in the early stage according to the requirements of the University, and turn aesthetic education into a project to strive for resources and policies. In addition, we should rely on students, mobilize students and organize students, to do a good job in aesthetic education through joint efforts of teachers and students.

Zhang Meizhen, deputy dean of the School of Arts and Communication, said that under the background of the new arts construction, it was very meaningful to explore how to strengthen the construction of teachers’ teaching ability and implement the important task of aesthetic education in the new era. She believed that, we should do a good job in the School-based top-level design and planning, integrate the resources in the School based on the existing conditions, and strive to make breakthroughs in the application of provincial teaching teams and first-class undergraduate professional courses, and the golden course construction. Secondly, it was necessary to build a more scientific and reasonable teaching quality evaluation system, so as to really promote the cultivation and improvement of teachers’ teaching ability, especially young teachers.

Gui Yuhui, Dean of the School of Arts and Communication, believed that aesthetic education was a “moistening” education; advocating aesthetic education, in fact, was to let aesthetic education play its due role in all-round development of human beings. In aesthetic education, the School of Arts and Communication had made exploration and practice, and had also made some achievements. However, in the face of the new requirements of aesthetic education in the new era, the teachers and students of the School should devote themselves to aesthetic education with greater sense of responsibility and fuller enthusiasm, and make due contributions to the aesthetic education of the University in the new era.

Fu Anzhou made a summary speech. He said that from the speeches delivered by the teachers, we could see that everyone had seriously studied the spirit of relevant documents, and could put forward opinions and suggestions in combination with the actual situation of the School and departments. He pointed out that strengthening the construction of teaching ability and implementing the aesthetic education in the new era complemented each other. Aesthetic education was an important part of the educational policy of the Party, and the aesthetic education in University was a cause of moral education and soul building. Especially for the School of Arts and Communication, aesthetic education was the lifeline. We must attach great importance to and strengthen aesthetic education.

Fu Anzhou pus forward four requirements on how to better improve teachers’ teaching ability and implement the aesthetic education in the new era for the School of Arts and Communication. First, we should make great efforts to improve our ideological awareness. In order to promote the aesthetic education better, the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, the General Office of the State Council and the Ministry of Education had successively issued relevant documents, and the University also issued the Implementation Plan of Aesthetic Education in the New Era. We hoped that through in-depth study of relevant documents, we could unify our thoughts to the requirements of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council, implement the documents of the University, and prepare the specific implementation plan of implementing and promoting the aesthetic education in the new era as soon as possible based on the actual situation of the School of Arts and Communication. Second, we should take more efforts in undertaking the mission of aesthetic education. The School of Arts and Communication should actively participate in the aesthetic education of the University, further change the concept, emancipate the mind, take the initiative to set topics, and integrate the ideas about the implementation of aesthetic education into the planning and policies of the University, so as to better lead the work of aesthetic education in our University. Third, it was necessary to combine the aesthetic education with the advantageous disciplines of the University. We should actively explore the geoscience elements and the characteristics of the University, communicate with other schools, integrate the resources of the University, build the practice base of aesthetic education, and expand the content and form of aesthetic education. Fourth, we should make efforts to improve the teaching ability. Teaching ability was a teacher’s first ability. The School should carry out “extensive training and supervision”, focus on conventional teaching, and standardize the teaching behavior, so as to effectively improve the quality of education.
